General paediatric practice at 1 Thomas Mann Street renovated
Deputy Mayor Diána Széles, municipal representative Dániel Barcza, and paediatricians Dr Anita Brojnás and Dr Orsolya Somodi reported on the renovation of the general paediatrician’s practice serving two districts at a press conference held on-site on 13 June 2025.
Diána Széles highlighted that the two paediatric practices were renovated as a result of collaboration at the property at Thomas Mann Street 1. As she said, “Dr. Anita Brojnás and Dr. Orsolya Somodi have created a practice that is truly child-friendly, as families can feel as if they are entering a children’s room rather than a cold clinic. The local government undertook the modernisation of the heating and the replacement of the windows and doors for a total of HUF 6 million, thus ensuring that the maintenance costs are as low as possible considering today’s utility prices.”
She stressed that it is essential for the city that all family doctor’s surgeries are renovated, saying 16 surgeries have been completed so far. She noted that the works on the property at 45 Thomas Mann Street have already been completed, and the public procurement procedure is underway to select a contractor for the general practitioner medical property located in the Nagymacsi district. “It was a great help to the city that both family doctors stood by the municipality and helped with the renovation. We must thank them for what they do for the children and families of Debrecen because that is why we are a caring city,” she underlined.
Dr. Anita Brojnás explained that the renovation took two and a half years, and the forest motif is reflected in the decoration. As she said, “This is partly because the Great Forest and Pallag areas belong to her district and partly because of personal motivation, because her father works as a forest engineer.” She talked about how the clinic is decorated with children’s drawings and that, in the future, they will announce a drawing competition for the children who visit there every month.”
Dr. Orsolya Somodi said that not only she but also her family members participated in the renovation. Her husband took care of their children, and she painted the walls in the treatment room and the waiting room while her mother wallpapered. They also assembled the furniture.
Dániel Barcza, the municipal representative of the district, said that the two doctors would provide care for a total of more than 900 children in practice and expressed his joy that the paediatricians personally participated in the beautification of the clinic.
