The melodies of Verdi’s operas filled the courtyard of the Old Town Hall
The programme was jointly organised by the University of Debrecen, the Kodály Philharmonic and the city of Debrecen.
Excerpts from the operas Il trovatore (” The Troubadour”), Rigoletto, Aida, and La Traviata were performed at the Old Town Hall on Tuesday evening.
In addition to the Kodály Philharmonic, the performance featured artists from the postgraduate training program at the University of Debrecen, including Klára Vincze, Péter Balczó, and Imre Donkó, with Zoltán Bolyky serving as the conductor of the evening.
Chancellor Zoltán Bács and László Papp greeted the guests. The mayor drew attention to the fact that such an event had never been held in this location before.
“Now it turns out that the Debrecen Town Hall is being tested because it is our no-concealed intention, together with the chief music director and the professor, to fulfil those ideas so that opera performance in Debrecen can shine in its former glory again just as this venue does,” László Papp said.
