Programs in Debrecen this week

Those who don’t celebrate Halloween won’t be bored either, Debrecen offers a wide range of programs, to enjoy. Here’s a selection of events happening this week in Debrecen — from theatre plays and exhibitions to family-friendly fun.

28 October

Sung poems

  • With live music and many instruments performed by the anzX band in the Borsos Villa from 10.00 a.m.

Thematic museum educational programs for families

  • Egyptian cultural panorama: a united unity of faith, beauty and practicality in antiquity in the Déri Museum from 10.00 a.m. and 2.00 p.m. 
  • The program is part of  the Autumn Festival of Museums.

Halloween party all day in the Méliusz Library

  • The Méliusz Juhász Péter Library is not left out of the Halloween program series, as they are waiting for children with a full-day program in the children’s section of the library.
  • The organizers are preparing some terrifyingly good games, terribly good craft tasks, and a storytime screening from 5.00 p.m. throughout the morning and afternoon.

Mini-exhibition and Quiz

  • In honor of the birthday of Vilmos Gryllus—renowned Hungarian composer, musician, and founding member of Kaláka—Méliusz Library is hosting a special mini-exhibition and interactive quiz.
  • Open until: December 31, 2025

Exhibition on the occasion of Painting Day

  • In celebration of Painting Day, an exhibition will open at the Józsai Community House starting at 5:00 p.m., showcasing works by local artists and inviting visitors to explore the vibrant world of visual expression.

Concert of the Israeli Cantor Choir at the Orthodox Synagogue

  • On October 27 at 6:00 p.m., the Orthodox Synagogue on Pásti Street will host a special concert by the renowned Israeli Cantor Choir.
  • Known for their rich vocal harmonies and deeply moving liturgical repertoire, the choir brings a unique blend of tradition and artistry to the heart of Debrecen’s Jewish quarter.

Carmen – Performance at the Csokonai Theatre

  • Carmen takes the stage at Csokonai National Theatre from October 28–31, every day from 6.00 p.m. — performed in Hungarian with English subtitles.

29 October

Thematic museum educational programs for families

  • The combat and everyday clothes of the samurai court – tradition, holidays and the ideal of beauty in Japanese culture at the Déri Museum from 10.00 a.m. and 2.00 p.m.  
  • The program of the Autumn Festival of Museums.

Sparks of the soul

  • Opening of the fire enamel and weaving exhibition by Valéria Bessenyei and Attiláné Bessenyei at the Homokkert Community House from 4.00 p.m. 
  • Available to view: until November 21.

Carmen – Performance at the Csokonai Theatre –PERFORMANCE CANCELLED DIE TO ILLNESS on October 28, the performances on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday are not affected.

  • Carmen takes the stage at Csokonai National Theatre from October 28–31, every day from 6.00 p.m. — performed in Hungarian with English subtitles

30 October

AQUAKIDS Halloween at the Aquaticum Indoor Aqua Park from 10:30 a.m.

  • Step into the spooktacular world of Halloween! Get ready for the “Deadly Good” aquafitness, Witch Corner, bat making, ghost-catching game, mummy run, and Halloween face painting! Spend the day with us filled with fun, laughter, and a touch of chills – this is a party you can’t miss!

Cheesemaking with cheese magician Gergely Bolya at the Tannery from 3.00 p.m. Registration required!

  • Join master cheesemaker Gergely Bolya—affectionately known as the “cheese magician”—for a hands-on workshop at the Tímárház starting at 3:00 p.m.
  • This interactive session offers a unique opportunity to learn the art of traditional cheesemaking from one of Hungary’s most passionate experts.

Women’s Day with sauna infusions at the Aquaticum Sauna World from 4 p.m.

  • Every month, on two Thursday afternoons, only ladies are dealt with from 4:00 p.m. until closure. In this period, our sauna world pampers only lady guests, without men.
  • Starting at 6:00 p.m., unwind from the busy week with expert sauna master ladies and discover how a healthy sauna ritual can rejuvenate both body and soul.

Exhibition “”Bodies and Memories – Figurative Selection from the Antal–Lusztig Collection” Opens at MODEM 

  • The exhibition, featuring works from Hungary’s largest private art collection—nearly 5,000 pieces, opens on October 30 at MODEM Art Center.

  • Deeprecen concert series returns to Stage Underground Music Club on Domb Street with a night of genre-defying sound and creative energy on October 30

Photography Exhibition Opens at Bényi Gallery

  • Photographer András Máthé’s exhibition “ONE SECOND – almost a lifetime’s work” opens October 30 at Bényi Gallery, exploring time and memory through decades of imagery.

31 October

  • Step into a world of spooky magic at the Amusement Park this Halloween!

“Night of Fear”

  • On Halloween night, Apollo Cinema once again awaits horror fans for a marathon movie night. 
  • The Night of Fear is being organized for the tenth time, during which horror films will be screened all night in all three halls.

Halloween Park Debrecen

  • This year, Halloween Park Debrecen awaits visitors in the Forgotten Castle, on October 31, from 6.00 p.m. with Trick or Treat and intensified fear!
