Animal Welfare Organisations in Debrecen and Hajdú-Bihar Among State Grant Recipients

Thanks to a state grant scheme of HUF 1 billion, a total of 472 civil organisations working in animal protection will receive support, wrote Edina Szilágyi, Animal Welfare Officer of the Municipality of Debrecen, on her Facebook page following the announcement of the results of the Bethlen Gábor Fund Management’s grant scheme.

The aim of the grant was to provide financial support for the operational and programme-related costs of NGOs and public foundations involved in animal protection, rescue, assistance and guide dogs, as well as for neutering and veterinary expenses, the purchase of vehicles, and—where applicable, if they also operate an animal shelter or wildlife rescue centre—for site development.

The list of supported organisations includes several foundations and associations from Hajdú-Bihar, for example:

  • Ferenc Bodolai “Add Your Paw” Foundation, which operates a shelter in Debrecen, received HUF 4.1 million,
  • “Together for Animals” Public Benefit Animal Protection Association, also running a shelter in Debrecen, received HUF 1.3 million,
  • Puli Animal Protection Association, likewise operating a shelter in Debrecen, received HUF 3.9 million,
  • “I Love Debrecen” Association received HUF 2.5 million,
  • Debrecen Mantrailing and Dog Association received HUF 600,000,
  • Balmazújváros Dog and Temporary Animal Home Association received HUF 800,000,
  • Hajdúszoboszló Dog Lovers Association received HUF 1.2 million,
  • Hajdúnánás Animal Protection Foundation received HUF 3 million,
  • Hajdú Special Search and Rescue Association received HUF 500,000,
  • Hajdúság Guide and Assistance Dog Training Foundation received HUF 500,000,
  • Bird Hospital Foundation operating in Hortobágy received HUF 2.5 million,
  • Balmaz Civil Animal Protectors Association received HUF 3.5 million.

Edina Szilágyi noted that this represents significant support for the organisations’ day-to-day work, as the funding will enable important developments, equipment purchases, and expanded opportunities for neutering and medical treatment of animals across the country.
