Another school in Debrecen has joined the UNESCO network
Tóth Árpád Grammar School was officially admitted to the UNESCO Associated Schools Network (ASPnet) on 16 June, after the school’s application was approved by UNESCO’s International Coordinating Committee. As a member of the globally recognised network, the institution can now actively participate in international initiatives supporting human rights and cultural diversity.
“The grammar school community is looking forward to cooperation with other associated schools and is happy to share their own good practices in the global community,” as was announced by the institution’s management.
The UNESCO Associated Schools Network was established in 1953, and to date, approximately 12,000 educational institutions from 182 countries have joined the international network, according to the UNESCO website.
The network consists of primary and secondary schools, and its goal is to make the education of the youth more effective in line with UNESCO’s goals.
“These schools undertake to pay increased attention to three priority topics in their daily work: global responsibility, a culture of peace and non-violence; sustainable development and lifestyle; intercultural learning and appreciation of cultural diversity and heritage, “ as stated on the website.
Hungary joined the initiative in the 1960s, and so far 27 schools from the country have participated in the Associated Schools Network. One institution in Debrecen, Kazinczy Ferenc Elementary School, and AMI were among them.
