Battery Module Assembly Begins at CATL’s New Manufacturing Unit in Debrecen

CATL’s investment project in Debrecen has reached another milestone: on 6 May, the assembly of battery modules began in a new factory building after the facility received all the necessary permits required to commence production activities. According to the company, the new module production line has an annual capacity of 5 GWh.

With the investment in its final stretch, construction of the company’s first cell manufacturing plant in the Southern Economic Zone has been completed, and the installation of Industry 4.0 equipment has also been finalised. Once all permits required for the commencement of cell production are in place, test production of battery cells can begin.

Module production has already been underway since the autumn of 2024 in a rented hall operating two production lines. To date, 240,000 modules have been produced there, powering 60,000 electric vehicles across Europe. On 6 May, assembly of battery modules also began in the newly constructed building adjacent to the company’s cell factory, after CATL Debrecen received all the necessary approvals to commission the additional assembly unit. The new module assembly line has an annual production capacity of 5 GWh.

The company added that demand within the European automotive industry for high-performance, safe vehicle batteries continues to grow. CATL aims to meet this demand with innovative, high-performance and long-lasting battery technologies. The company continuously adapts its constantly evolving and innovative product portfolio to the needs of European customers.
