BMW Group Plant Debrecen Already Recruiting for Third Shift
New job advertisements have appeared on the BMW Group Plant Debrecen careers website, including several positions such as team leaders, mechanical technicians and maintenance technicians that have specifically been advertised for night shift work. This indicates that preparations are already underway to launch a third shift at the Debrecen BMW plant.
As previously reported several times, BMW Group Plant Debrecen launched its second shift ahead of schedule because demand for the iX3, the first model of the Neue Klasse family to be manufactured there, exceeded even the expectations of BMW executives.
At a press briefing in Budapest last week, Glenn Schmidt, BMW Group’s Vice President for Global Sustainability, stated that approximately 50,000 orders have so far been placed for the iX3 model produced at the BMW Group’s Debrecen factory, and demand is expected to remain strong beyond 2026. Since early March, Debrecen-produced BMW models have already been available in European showrooms, while the model is set to enter the United States market in summer 2026. The iX3 has also won the Hungarian Car of the Year 2026 award, as well as World Car of the Year and World Electric Car of the Year honours.
In March 2026, according to the latest joint report by HR Portal and the Opten company information service, the number of employees increased by more than 100 at three labour hire companies and two international manufacturing firms, including the Debrecen BMW plant. Excluding labour hire companies, BMW recorded the largest increase.
The workforce of BMW Manufacturing Hungary Kft. increased by 187 employees, rising from 4,437 in February to 4,624, while the facility is currently accepting applications for 42 positions.
Last week, a photographer from Médiacentrum Debrecen captured fully loaded railway convoys transporting BMW iX3 vehicles manufactured in Debrecen to customers. The value of the shipment amounted to several billion HUF. The first railway convoy transporting completed vehicles departed from BMW’s Debrecen plant in March, with logistics operations being managed by PSP Rail, the rail logistics subsidiary of Waberer’s. According to previous statements, 110 newly developed and manufactured railway wagons specifically optimised for vehicle transport have entered service, equipped with the latest safety and securing technologies. Transportation is supported by state-of-the-art Siemens Vectron electric locomotives, guaranteeing efficiency and low emissions across the entire European route.
