BMW Reveals Workforce Numbers at Debrecen Factory
From November to December, the workforce at BMW Manufacturing Hungary Kft. increased by 170, bringing the total number of employees at the BMW plant in Debrecen to 4,070, according to a joint report by HR Portal and the Opten company information service. BMW now employs more people than Magyar Suzuki Zrt. (3,033 employees) and is approaching the headcount of Mercedes-Benz Manufacturing Hungary Kft. (4,980 employees).
At the end of January, the first German customers were able to take delivery of their BMW iX3 models produced in Debrecen. At the event, Jochen Goller, Member of the Board of Management of BMW AG responsible for Customer, Brands and Sales, stated that customer interest is already enormous: since the world premiere, every third purely electric BMW ordered in Europe has been an iX3 model. As a result, the ramp-up of production will be accelerated and the second shift in Debrecen will commence significantly earlier than originally planned.
András Salgó, Head of Corporate Communications at BMW Group Hungary, told Dehir.hu that BMW Group Hungary publishes registration data, which will be released for the first time this year in early April 2026. He added, however, that the model’s strong domestic order book also reflects its international success. From the official European – and thus Hungarian – market launch date of 7 March 2026, Hungarian customers will also be able to take delivery of the first BMW iX3 models produced in Debrecen.
According to BMW’s careers website, applications are currently being accepted for 43 positions at the Debrecen plant. The company is seeking, among others, team leaders and specialists for various production units, maintenance staff, production operators, and even an occupational health specialist. BMW’s recruitment stand will once again be welcoming interested applicants this weekend on level -1 of the Fórum shopping centre. Information about opportunities will be available on Friday from 4.00 pm to 7.00 pm, on Saturday from 12.00 noon to 8.00 pm, and on Sunday from 10.00 am to 6.00 pm. In the coming weeks, the BMW Career Bus will set off again, visiting Hajdúböszörmény, Berettyóújfalu, Püspökladány and Kisújszállás.
There is further good news for current and prospective employees of the plant: from 1 March, services will resume on the renovated 108 railway line between Debrecen and Balmazújváros. During the morning peak period, trains will run as frequently as every 30 minutes between the two towns, with a journey time of just 23 minutes, while travel between Debrecen and Tiszafüred will be 15 minutes shorter than under the previous timetable. Trains will also stop near the BMW factory. Thanks to the integrated fare system, Debrecen residents will be able to use the trains with a DKV pass.
The company has also announced recently that BMW remains Hungary’s most popular premium car brand. BMW has further increased its share of the premium segment, with every third model sold in the segment now bearing the BMW badge. BMW Group Hungary recorded a 23.2 per cent increase in sales in 2025, delivering 7,732 new vehicles in Hungary.
