CATL launched a recruitment campaign in Debrecen and its surroundings

The Chinese battery manufacturer CATL has launched a new recruitment campaign in Debrecen and its surroundings, offering hundreds of new jobs. The company aims to employ locals and people from surrounding settlements in production, manufacturing, quality assurance, and logistics positions as much as possible, the company announced on Monday.

The announcement recalled that CATL—a world leader in the production of batteries for electric vehicles and an international market leader in technological innovations based on renewable energy sources—is building its second European battery factory in Debrecen with an investment of approximately HUF 3,000 billion.

The investment and the economy of Debrecen will reach a significant milestone at the end of the year: according to plans, trial production will start in the cell factory, while the module assembly hall will be expanded with a new production line. To achieve this, the current number of employees, which is over 800, will be increased to 1,400 in the coming months, the statement said.

According to the company’s statement, this marks the Debrecen battery factory’s fourth major recruitment campaign, aiming to offer opportunities primarily to employees living in Debrecen and Hajdú-Bihar County.

The campaign primarily targets those living in Debrecen and within a 60-kilometer radius of the city, with particular attention to those who would like to find a job in the fields of production, manufacturing, quality assurance, or logistics. The company welcomes both graduates and qualified applicants, regardless of age and gender.

In addition to Hungarian employees, CATL Debrecen currently employs Chinese professionals and people of other nationalities who support the initial operation.

In the near future, additional Chinese employees will temporarily arrive from the parent company in order to introduce CATL’s unique, innovative technology to the locals. While the company’s strategy is clearly based on involving the local workforce, the company indicated.

The announcement highlighted that CATL has been building its presence in the region since the fall of 2022. Since 2023, it has organized three recruitment campaigns, as a result of which the number of domestic employees has continuously expanded.

The company has developed close cooperation with the Debrecen Vocational Training Center (DSZC): it regularly participates in local job fairs, its specialists give lectures in classes, and it hosts student groups for factory visits.

The long-term goal of the partnership is to develop dual training programs, which will further strengthen the relationship between the local labor market and the company.

In the statement it was added that within the framework of the battery factory operator training that will be launched soon together with DSZC, they will provide one hundred registered job seekers and external applicants with the opportunity to obtain professional qualifications within three months, the announcement quoting factory director Qin Liang.

Founded in 2011, Contemporary Amperex Technology Co. Ltd. (CATL) is one of the world’s most important battery industry players, with a 37.9 percent global market share.

Thanks to the company’s 13 manufacturing bases and 6 research and development centers, it now has extensive professional experience in the field of battery and energy storage system manufacturing.

To date, nine of the company’s factories have been certified carbon neutral, and three of its factories have been selected as members of the Global Lighthouse Network by the World Economic Forum, the company announced.
