Competition was held in the spirit of sport, fair play, and movement
For the second time, the “Move, Debrecen!” school program and the Szent Bazil Greek Catholic Secondary School, operated by the Archdiocese of Hajdúdorog, hosted the “Move with Szent Bazil!” competition.
On December 9, 2025, sixty students gathered at the institution’s Faraktár Street unit. Opening the competition, Csilla Kovalecz‑Szabó, head of the school, welcomed the participants. The school joined the “Move, Debrecen!” initiative last year to provide students with opportunities to explore different sports and engage in regular physical activity. Through the competition and related programs, the organizers aim to raise awareness among young people about the value of a healthy lifestyle and sports, presented in a playful and experiential way.
At yesterday’s contest, organizers welcomed ten‑member teams composed of students without sports licenses. The participants relied on their skills, speed, and strength to complete the tasks, while teamwork and mutual support proved just as essential for success as individual performance.
Thanks to the hosts, visiting students also gained insight into the institution’s everyday activities: hairdressing students showcased their craft by braiding hair, while in the training kitchen, pizza and linzer cookies were freshly prepared.
At the end of the competition, Dr. Csaba Papp, Director of the Debrecen Institute of Primary Care and Health Development (DEAFI), together with Gréta Kerekes—Olympian, multiple national champion hurdler, and ambassador of the “Move, Debrecen!” program—congratulated the participants.
The competition concluded with the following results:
- Debrecen Bolyai János Primary School and Primary Art School
- Debrecen Kazinczy Ferenc Primary School and Primary Art School
- Debrecen Bocskai István Primary School, Karácsony Sándor Branch
All participants received gifts from Szent Bazil and the “Move, Debrecen!” program, while the top three teams were additionally honored with medals.
