Designer Selected for Another Major Junction Development in Debrecen
Three major junction development projects are currently being carried out simultaneously in Debrecen. Work is progressing according to schedule on the reconstruction of the junctions at Erzsébet Street, Szoboszlói Road and Külsővásártér, as well as Balmazújvárosi Road and Füredi Road, together with Csigekert Street and Szabó Lőrinc Street. In addition, the redevelopment of the junctions at Vámospércsi Road, Faraktár Street, Budai Nagy Antal Street and Hétvezér Street is also under way.
However, the work will not stop there. The municipality of Debrecen is now preparing a capacity expansion development project for the junction of Bartók Béla Road and Böszörményi Road, as well as Mester Street and Pesti Street. The tender for the design work has been successfully concluded, with the local company TERV-TÁR Tervező, Kivitelező és Szolgáltató Bt. winning the contract with a bid of HUF 8.826 million, as reported by Dehir based on the summary uploaded to the Public Procurement Bulletin. The standstill period for signing the contract expires on Friday, after which the parties may formally conclude the agreement.
According to the tender documentation, under the current layout of the Bartók Béla Road – Böszörményi Road – Mester Street – Pesti Street junction, traffic arriving from Bartók Béla Road and Böszörményi Road shares a single receiving lane on Mester Street. In addition, at the Mester Street – Pesti Street junction, alongside the existing central island, there is a right-turn lane without traffic lights connecting to this receiving lane, which provides a 2×2 lane configuration towards the city centre.
The designer’s task will be to plan two straight receiving lanes from Bartók Béla Road towards Mester Street, preferably by reducing the size of the central island located at the junction with Pesti Street, including any necessary redesign of the existing traffic light system. When determining the size of the central island, the designer must take into account the existing cycle crossing leading towards Mester Street, as the current cycle path cannot be interrupted.
The future designer will also be responsible for preparing the detailed construction plans and obtaining the necessary official permits.
The section affected by the design work along Bartók Béla Road and Mester Street covers 175 metres. In connection with the planned receiving lanes, documentation will also be required for road construction, public lighting, drainage, water supply and any necessary utility relocations.
The successful bidder will have 164 days to complete the entire design process.
