Drinking Water Distribution Continues in Debrecen During the Heat Alert
During the Level 3 heat alert, the Municipality of Debrecen is assisting residents by providing cooling stations, distributing drinking water, and operating misting systems.
In light of the extension of the heat alert, Debrecen will continue distributing drinking water until August 7 (Friday) between 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. in the city center. Volunteers from the Debrecen Charity Association are participating in the water distribution, providing drinking water to passersby at the intersection of Hatvan Street and Kossuth Square (near the Lőrinc Szabó statue).
Refreshment stations will be available during office hours at City Hall (20 Piac Street) and the New City Hall (11 Kálvin Square) for anyone looking for a little refreshment.
Prevention is especially important during summer heat waves, which is why Debrecen is not only distributing water but also operating misting stations at several locations to alleviate the sensation of heat. The misting systems are in operation at Kossuth Square, Kálvin Square, Csapó Street, Tócóskert, Angyalföld Square, and the Water Tower Promenade.
The Municipality of Debrecen asks residents to pay special attention to children, the elderly, pregnant women, and those with cardiovascular diseases. It is especially important that no one leave home without water, and let’s not forget about our pets: make sure they have plenty of fresh drinking water on hot days as well. Children, the elderly, or animals should never be left in a parked vehicle, even for a short time, as the interior can heat up extremely quickly to life-threatening levels.
