European Mobility Week in Debrecen

Under the slogan “Mobility for Everyone”, the 2026 European Mobility Week will take place from 16 to 22 September, with Debrecen once again joining the initiative. As part of the 2026 Mobility Week and Car-Free Day, DKV Zrt. and the Zsuzsi Forest Railway are welcoming passengers with the following events and activities.

Retro Day – 20 September

DKV Zrt. will operate heritage trolleybuses and trams to promote public transport.

Car-Free Day – 22 September

On Car-Free Day, public transport services can be used free of charge from the start of service until the end of service on 22 September, upon presentation of a valid vehicle registration document.

Forest Harvest and Car-Free Day with the Zsuzsi Forest Railway – 19 September

Participants will learn about the importance of environmental protection and sustainable transport during a forest excursion, with public transport as one of its key foundations.

Cyclists’ Afternoon Snack – 16 September, 3:00 p.m.

In 2026, the Hungarian Cyclists’ Club is once again running its “Cycle to Work!” campaign, with Debrecen joining the initiative. EDC Debrecen will welcome everyone arriving in the city centre by bicycle on 16 September with an afternoon snack. Cyclists will be able to collect their refreshments in front of Hotel Aranybika.

Future of Debrecen Events

As in previous years, during Mobility Week Future of Debrecen will share fun facts and information about public transport and cycling via the monitors installed on DKV trams and buses.

On Saturday, 19 September, Future of Debrecen and the LIFE IP HungAIRy team will organise a cycling tour exploring Tócóskert. Participants will visit the first Tócóskert Community Garden and the protective woodland on Derék Street.

During the guided tour, participants will learn about the history of Tócóskert, discover the beneficial effects of gardening at the community garden, and find out how important trees are in improving air quality at the protective woodland.

In keeping with the spirit of Mobility Week, the event will take place on two wheels, further promoting cycling as a means of transport.

Participation is free, but registration is required. Further information is available on Future of Debrecen’s Facebook page.
