Pásti Street SynagougeDebrecen’s cultural richness and openness are well reflected by the Jewish Cultural Days and Street Festival, organised jointly with the Debrecen Jewish Community. The aim of the event is to bring Jewish culture, traditions and community values closer to visitors, while offering insight into a diverse world through engaging programmes.
A key element of the festival is gastronomy: visitors can become acquainted with specialities of kosher cuisine, including the barches burger and the traditional flódni, which can be tasted with the contribution of Judit Stahl.
As part of the cultural programmes, there will also be opportunities to explore the synagogue and the mikveh through guided visits, bringing religious and community traditions closer to participants. As part of the programme, on 30 May from 21:00, a concert by Anima Sound System will welcome visitors.
On the closing day of the festival, Sunday 31 May, all-day stage programmes will await visitors: Jewish musical and theatrical productions will follow one another with the participation of Hungarian and international performers. Among those taking the stage will be the Dixieland group, the Agyagbanda with a Jewish wedding-themed performance, and the Progetto DAVKA klezmer ensemble from Rome. The theatrical experience will be provided by the improvisational performance “Flódni”, featuring Péter Novák, Judit Schell and Máté Járai. The audience will also be able to see an acoustic version of Franciska Törőcsik’s production “On the Road”, and artists of the Csokonai National Theatre will perform excerpts from “Fiddler on the Roof”.
