European Researchers’ Night is a Europe-wide celebration of science and innovation, offering a vibrant mix of free events designed to bring research closer to the public. Taking place on the last weekend of September, this annual event opens the doors to the fascinating world of science through engaging, hands-on experiences.

University of Debrecen

This year, the University of Debrecen is joining the international initiative for the 19th time. The university is preparing more than 100 activities, offering something for every age group, from the youngest visitors to older adults.

Researchers’ Night aims to bring science closer to the general public and provide an insight into the research, development and innovation taking place at the university through activities covering a wide range of fields, from natural and medical sciences through agricultural, engineering and IT disciplines to the humanities and social sciences.

This year’s programme will once again include audience favourites such as chemistry and physics experiments, as well as the ethnographers’ live-music dance house. As a new feature, the Paediatric Clinic of the Clinical Centre will offer interactive demonstrations, including sessions on paediatric resuscitation and modern methods of paediatric rehabilitation.

This year, the organisers are also placing particular emphasis on research related to industrial developments taking place in Debrecen. Visitors will be able to learn about, among other things, the latest results in battery development, university patents, and the scientific background to energy security and the fight against climate change.

Activities will not be limited to Debrecen: visitors will also be welcomed at the university’s educational sites in Hajdúböszörmény, Nyíregyháza and Szolnok. The programme will also feature a number of English-language lectures and laboratory tours.

International School of Debrecen

ISD will be welcoming families with interactive activities, experiments, challenges, mathematical puzzles, and much more. With sessions available at multiple times throughout the evening, visitors can take part in several different experiences.

The full programme is available on the official website. Advance registration is required for laboratory tours with limited capacity and some popular workshops, so visitors are advised to plan their programme in good time.
