A joyful start to 2027 awaits audiences in Debrecen on 11 January, with The Golden Voices of Gospel once again performing the gospel genre’s finest, best-known and hidden musical treasures at the Reformed Great Church. Baptist minister Dwight Robson and his hand-picked soloists bring the teachings of the Gospel to life through the traditions of African-American music.

This uplifting popular music programme draws on African-American musical heritage and the teachings of the Gospel. Alongside familiar favourites such as Hallelujah and Oh, Happy Day, the two-hour performance features a wealth of exciting, distinctive and heart-warming international hits, presented in ways audiences may never have heard before.

World-famous stars such as Michael Jackson and Mariah Carey have also been delighted to work with the professional ensemble The Golden Voices of Gospel.

The word gospel means “good news” or “glad tidings.” Gospel music developed from American religious songs based on the teachings of the Gospel, including spirituals – sung prayers expressing African Americans’ longing for freedom and happiness. Compared with spirituals, gospel music has a livelier pulse and more pronounced rhythms.

Many of today’s most influential pop artists, including Michael Jackson, Tina Turner, Stevie Wonder, Whitney Houston and Beyoncé, have also drawn heavily on the traditions of this musical style.

Tickets are available in advance online.
