A New Exhibition in the Gallery of Medgyessy Ferenc High School

MFG Gallery Angyalföld  Square, Debrecen, Hungary

At the exhibition the audience will be able to see the works of the 13th and 14th grade painting students of Medgyessy Ferenc High School, Art High School and Technikum. The exhibition ‘There's something to be excited about’  opens on Thursday, on the 11th of January 5:30 p.m. ‘This is where they are now, they don't want to research/investigate something, they rather show the ‘ being there’ by wandering on their own path. Individual experiments, attempts that we see. Their clicks, data ‘bolt-down’, daily stories written in hastags are visualised,’Károly Szabó summarised it. Csilla Kiss Papp, Deputy Director of Igazgyöngy AMI (former Deputy Director and Artistic Director of Medgyessy High School) will open the exhibition in the MFG Gallery on Angyalföld Square. Short Film Evening in Apollo Cinema

At the event on the 17th of January from 8 p.m. the audience can see 6 films in Dutch with English subtitles.  Participants are asked to take a pen with themselves as they can submit their votes to the preferred films. Mulled wine will also be served, so the guests are also asked to take a mug. The event is organised by the Dutch-Flemish Center in Debrecen and the Apollo Theatre. The King’s Singers Ensemble Brings Cartoon Musical Classics to Főnix Arena

The popular production, selecting  from the best-known and most popular animated soundtracks to the delight of music and cinema fans, will be presented in Budapest on the 16th of January 16, in Debrecen on the 17th of January at  Főnix Arena and in Szeged on the 18th of January. The King's Singers delved deeply into classic soundtracks, reinterpreting the songs, dressing them in a brand new guise. It is the largest-scale The King's Singers project to date, which includes brand new adaptations of the popular cartoon classics of the past century. The world-renowned ensemble celebrates 100 years of iconic storytelling with a special symphonic orchestra arena tour to bring back the most beautiful memories of childhood through music for all ages, including the popular story in which a princess falls into a deep sleep, from which only true love's kiss can wake her up. The boy band prepares for these concerts with a large-scale arena show and corresponding visual elements. A classical music production based on classical values will be staged, where the music will shine in a million colours. Night of Ice Rinks

‘This Saturday on the 20th of January, as always since 2016, the Hungarian Ice Hockey Association (MJSZ) will organise the Ice Rink Night,’ MTI (Hungarian Telegraph Office) wrote. Day of Hungarian Culture

January 22nd is the official Day of Hungarian Culture, dedicated to celebrating the written literature and poetry of Hungary, as well as honoring its renowned writers and poets. On this significant day in Hungarian literary history, the famous Hungarian poet Ferenc Kölcsey completed the manuscript of the Hungarian National Anthem in 1823. Since 1989, this date has been observed as a celebration of Hungarian culture, both within Hungary and abroad. The year 2023 marked a special anniversary as it commemorated exactly 200 years since the creation of the National Anthem. Typically, various programs and thematic exhibitions take place at venues such as the Déri Museum, New Town Hall - Csokonai Fórum, Reformed Great Church, DEMKI, and others, allowing people to immerse themselves in the rich cultural heritage of Hungary.

Day of Hungarian Culture in Csokonai Theatre

The city of Debrecen and the Csokonai National Theater are celebrating the day of Hungarian Culture with a special announcement in 2024. In the evening, they pay tribute to Ferenc Kölcsey, the poet of the National Anthem, with three performances on the 22nd of  January. That evening, the Debrecen theatre pays tribute to Ferenc Kölcsey, the poet of the reform era, with three performances. From 6:00 p.m. the dance performance "Towards wholeness" can be seen in the Zoltán Latinovits Hall of the Csokonai Forum.  The PR-Evolution Debrecen Contemporary Dance Ensemble celebrates its 20th anniversary with this piece, inspired by Sándor Weöres' work of the same name that raises an eternally actual question revealing the existential restlessness of the speck of dust thrown into the world. The choreography and exciting design language of the performance directed by Zsófia Nemes conveys to us the moment when we arrive at ourselves. The opening of the exhibition “The Carnival is Here, the Ball is on”.

Within the programs of the Day of Hungarian Culture, the exhibition titled  "The carnival is here, the ball is on" will be opened on the 23rd of January at 2.00 p.m.  at the New City Hall (Új Városháza). The exhibition topics are:hospitality, gastronomy, carnival traditions Partners of the event are  the Vocational Training Center of Debrecen, the Foundation for Gastronomy of Debrecen and the Gastronomy Club of Hajdúság The exhibition presenting carnival traditions can be viewed until February 29, 2024 during the opening hours of the New Town Hall. Exhibition of Fanni Bacskó

The exhibition Portrait Dynamics by painter Fanni Bacskó will be opened by visual designer Ágota Matyi on the 24th of January from 4 p.m. At the opening ceremony of the event organised by Zsuzsanna Cserép, István Rácz, president of the Debrecen Regional Committee of the Hungarian Academy of Science Club gives a welcome speech. Debrecen Zoo opens the year with a Family Day

Family Days will be held on 27th and the 28th of January from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The two-day program offers young and old alike a great opportunity to get a glimpse into the lives of the birds and their exotic relatives that spend the winter here. In the framework of an interactive zoo pedagogic session, visitors can  learn how to make their garden bird-friendly, how they can make feeders with their own hands for feathered friends, and they can also observe the native birds of the Great Forest together with binoculars.  The House of Knowledge opens its doors, where guests can take part in an owl spit testing and educational sessions organised by the Hortobágy National Park and the Hajdú-Bihar County Food Rescue Association. The Green Circle brings local nature conservation  closer to interested people in a playful way, and those who are really capable can take on the role of ethologists and participate in animal behaviour research. DVSC legends and Kowalsky and the Vega band are organising a charity soccer gala again in Debrecen

The event on the 28th of  January  will be hosted by Imre Hódos Sports Hall. The entire taking of the event will be donated to the Szivárvány az Esőben (Rainbow in the Rain)  Foundation, which helps families in need. DVSC Legends and Kowalsky and the Vega organised their first charity soccer gala in 2019. Now they are preparing for the third series of friendly matches, in which the celebrities of Debrecen and the fans of Diósgyőr, as a novelty will also enter the field.  In addition, young football talents will also play. ‘There will be a 2 times 12-minute part, where the DVSC U7 children will compete with the Diósgyőr U7 children, thus halving the field,’ chief organiser, Csaba Bernáth said. Jazz For You – Carnival Concert under the Enchantment of Jazz

The Steve Jazz Trio is made up of three teachers from the jazz department of the Béla Bartók High School of Music and Dance in Miskolc, who although excel primarily in the jazz genre, are also at home in the field of classical music. Pianist István Bundzik is a member and founder of several jazz formations: Fusio, Junior Art Quartett, Miskolc Dixieland Band, Click Jazz Band, and he tours the world's stages as a permanent piano accompanist of violinist Katica Illényi. Bass player Gyula Horváth, in addition to playing in symphonic and chamber orchestras, is a fan of the jazz genre, so the audience can recognize him mainly from such musical formations. Jazz drummer Gábor Kacsenyák does not stick to a single musical genre either, in addition to running a private drumming school, he also teaches classical percussion in several institutions, and appears on domestic stages in several light music ensembles.
