On the 10th of February visitors can celebrate the coming of spring in a unique riot of the great diversity of wildlife and thematic events at the Bearnival (Bear Festival) of Debrecen Zoo. A full day of activities awaits visitors to Debrecen's carnival event. Kowalsky and the Vega Concert in Főnix Arena

As a tradition Kowalsky and the Vega (Kowalsky Meg a Vega)  band start each year  at one of the country's major concert venues. This time, the year 2024 will be opened with two large-scale concerts. Kowalsky and the Vega is a Hungarian rock-oriented band. In the beginning, they strengthened the Funk-rock genre in Hungary, seasoned with hip-hop-style vocals, and nowadays they play music of a more mixed and popular soundscape.  To the great delight of the fans, they will hold a tour opening concert in both the eastern and western parts of the country, on the 10th of February, 2024 from 8 p.m. , they will perform in the Főnix Arena in Debrecen, and on February 24 in the Veszprém Arena. They are preparing a brand new program for the concert season, which also contains many surprises. In addition to the songs from their new album, which was released in October 2023, they will of course also play big hits of theirs. Exhibition “The Image of Colour, the Mystery of Image” opens in MODEM

MODEM's latest exhibition titled "The Image of Colour, the Mystery of Image" opens on the 9th of February. The exhibition presents a comprehensive selection of monochrome paintings from the Antal–Lusztig collection, which is one of the most important private collections in Hungary. The owner of the collection, which includes hundreds of domestic and international works, dr. Péter Antal started buying monochrome paintings in the mid-2000s, which have since formed an important segment of his collection. In the past decades, we have seen a small or large selection of monochrome works at numerous domestic and foreign exhibitions. Among other things, the importance of these exhibitions is given by the fact that, thanks to this exceptional collector's commitment, the spirit and heritage of monochrome painting lives on not only in individual works of art, along the lines of consistent creative endeavours, but also emerges from time to time in the public discourse on the occasion of exhibitions selected from the Antal–Lusztig collection. MODEM Art Center in Debrecen hosts English guided tour with Török Krisztián Gábor at the latest exhibition titled The Image of Color, the Mystery of Image on 13th February at 5:00 p.m. About the exhibition: The Image of Colour, the Mystery of Image, presents a comprehensive selection of monochrome paintings from the Antal-Lusztig Collection. This collection is recognised as one of the most significant private collections in Hungary, and a major group of works from it have been deposited in the museums of Debrecen. Focusing on the tradition of exhibiting works from the Antal-Lusztig Collection, this selection comprises several hundred national and international works. Dr. Péter Antal, the owner, began his acquisition of monochrome paintings in the mid-2000s, and the collection of more than five hundred works constitutes a separate segment of his collection. Over the past decades, a selection of these monochrome works has been featured in several exhibitions in Hungary and abroad. The current exhibition, featuring selected works from the monochrome segment of the Antal-Lusztig Collection, is organised into seven + one separate units. Valentine’s Day Swing Concert in the Great Church

As spring approaches, on the evening of Valentine's Day, the concert of the Debrecen Big Band  titled  ‘LOVE – Valentine's Day Swing’  will be held within the intimate walls of the Debrecen Reformed Great Church on the 13th of February from 7 p.m.  In addition to the usual performances from the Debrecen Big Band, which won the Csokonai award, several orchestrations were prepared for this concert, which will be interpreted by nationally known and successful performers. Star performers of the concert Singer and actress Réka Koós, who uses her skills in all kinds of musical styles.  She is a Junior Lyra award-winning performer.   She has played in In Germany, Austria and our country, she has played main roles in several musicals in Madách Theater. Péter Szolnoki is an Artisjus award-winning musician, singer, composer, arranger, singer and flutist of the Bon-Bon band. The versatile entertainer born in Debrecen has been  performing with the  Big Band in joint productions for 10 years. Tamás Vastag is a Phonogram award-winning singer and actor. Board Games afternoon in American Corner

Two lives of a flower – Chamber Exhibition at Déri Museum opens

The chamber exhibition and lecture of enamel and goldsmith Gyöngy Enikő is connected to the permanent local history exhibition The World of Civic People.  The photographic exhibition will be opened on Thursday the 15th of February, starting at 5.30 p.m. by Péter Gyöngy, Head of the Makoldi Sándor Centre of the National Institute of Culture. At the opening Enikő Gyöngy, enamel and jewellery artist, and folk craftswoman will give a lecture.  Admission is free and the exhibition will be open from 16 February to 17 March. Bird feeding and walking tour in the Great Forest

On the 17th of  February from 10:00 a.m. all interested visitors are welcome to the Bird Park promenade, where the bird feeders on top of the two information boards will be filled during a pleasant walk. At the event participants can learn about the birdlife of the Great Forest and the most important rules of bird feeding.  Visitors can bring sunflower seeds, ‘titmouse balls’ and apples with themselves. The guided tour is led by conservation engineer  Máté Tóth who is a member of the Green Working Group. Participation is free to join. Meeting point:  in front of Pálma Restaurant. 180th Birth Anniversary Commemoration of Mihály Munkácsy

The famous painter's 180th birthday anniversary will be commemorated on the 17th of February in Déri museum with the following programs: 2.00 p.m. Performance by the Alföld Quartet entitled "Munkácsy tells a story". The members of Alföld Quartet are Ágnes Ördög - violin, Mariann Szomorné Budai  - violin, Zita Jankó- viola, István Szomor - violoncello Alföld Quartet was formed in autumn 2012 in order to wildly perform the masterpieces of unfairly overshadowed chamber music. They aim to perform these pieces of music in music halls, churches, community centres of the South-East region and other parts of the country. Their work has been determined by high standard of music, proficiency, professionalism, sensitivity towards the musical and spiritual openness of their audience.Their repertoire includes important periods of music history, familiarity with secular and spiritual styles and genres, and high standard, entertaining music performances.
