“The testing of the new MÁV+ application, available to the general public from April, has started; some of the 1,500 testers were randomly selected from among the active users of the “old” MÁV application, while the other group can still apply for the available seats via a link published on the railway company’s website,” Hungarian Telegraph Office reported.

In its statement, MÁV recalled that the Ministry of Construction and Transport (abbreviated in Hungarian as ÉKM) and the MÁV Group published 10 commitments in January, one of which is to gradually replace the more than six-year-old MÁV mobile application with a new app.

The new app will start with the most frequently used functions and will reach full functionality by the end of the year, with updates every few weeks. Until full functionality is achieved, the old TRAIN app will remain available,” the release said.

The new application will be launched with a modern user interface, which can be used through the website sales interface (https://jegy.mav.hu/) and with the current username and password required for the old mobile application.

“Route planning will be merged, so that it will no longer be possible to plan not only by bus or train only, but also by a combination of both. This will be the fastest developing new application in the near future. Payment options will be extended with the digital wallets used by most people,” they explained.

The MÁV+ application will be extended week by week and month by month with new features over the next year. By the summer, features to help passengers plan their  journey with air-conditioned trains will be ready, and the new mobile app will be the fastest and most convenient way to get a refund for delay insurance.
