Within the framework of the D2030 programme, the city of Debrecen will continue its large-scale road renovation programme, which began in previous years, this year.
The primary goal of these works is to replace the aged and damaged asphalt pavements and to make the necessary local structural repairs to the roadway, thereby also improving the quality and safety of traffic in the city.
Phase I of the large-scale road renovation of Zöld Street has begun within the framework of the programme. The works concern the section between Zöld Street 19-20 and Kurta Street. The construction started with the installation of temporary traffic engineering equipment, as well as preparatory work and local excavations.
Municipal representative István Bognár, representing the city district, held a press conference on the commencement of works on May 30, 2025. He said, “Debrecen is a city where construction machinery does not stand still and gather dust. Road and busy junction developments are currently underway at several points. He added that a large-scale road repair starting on Zöld Street is needed. The unanimous opinion of the residents was that it was worth renovating.”
During the investment, after the worn-out wearing course is milled off, a new asphalt wearing course will be laid. In parallel, the contractor will raise the level of the existing utility fittings, replace the existing curbs on both sides, and replace the necessary local bonding layer.
The renovation affects a 140-meter section, and the gross cost of the investment is HUF 69,000,000. The works are expected to be completed by July 16, 2025, subject to weather conditions; however, the contractor will do everything possible to complete Phase I as soon as possible.
During the works, temporary traffic restrictions should be expected on the affected road section. Drivers are asked to drive according to the posted temporary road signs, not out of habit, to avoid congestion and ensure safe traffic.
