Last Call for Applicants: The University of Debrecen Awaits Future Students
For UD, students are the most important; in the long term, they define the institution’s image and directions of development—they are at the center. This was recently recognized by the Ministry of Culture and Innovation when, at the first-ever University of the Year awards ceremony, our institution was nominated in the categories of innovation, family-friendly operation, outstanding sports activity, support for culture and the arts, as well as student-friendly operation. The latter nomination resulted in an award: the University of Debrecen was chosen as University of the Year in the category of student-friendly operation – as stated on the institution’s website.
The continuously developing infrastructure always serves to enhance students’ everyday comfort. Housing, study and community opportunities, entertainment, and a modern environment that enables cultural activities and sports all make the institution attractive to those for whom, alongside obtaining a marketable and lasting degree and up-to-date knowledge, university life is also a decisive factor in choosing further studies. Modern dormitory rooms, up-to-date libraries, and a multifunctional learning center support students’ studies and comfort. The institution also facilitates student transportation in an environmentally friendly way through a university community bicycle system, making the well-equipped campuses located in green surroundings—though farther apart—quick and easy to access.
At the University of Debrecen, science, culture, entertainment, and sport reinforce each other to shape a diverse university world that makes UD not only one of the most exciting higher education institutions in the region, but in the entire country. Moreover, this varied symbiosis is attracting the attention of more and more young people abroad. The University of Debrecen is a truly international community, with 7,800 students from all over the world. The number of English-language programs, courses, and subjects is continuously increasing to ensure that everyone has an equal opportunity to gain competitive knowledge. The international atmosphere is further strengthened by the traditional annual event, International Food Day, where international students present their national cultures first-hand and seek to spark the interest of Hungarian and other young people through their traditional dishes.
In Hungary, only the University of Debrecen celebrates its students with a spectacular, gigantic stadium show. YoUDay is unparalleled; every year, performances by Hungary’s star bands and singers, local performers, and the talented pop music students of the Faculty of Music captivate not only freshmen but also citizens of the university and the city. At the country’s largest freshman camp, lifelong connections can be formed and first-year students can gain unforgettable memories. Moreover, the freshman camps are held every year on the Nagyerdei Campus, right next to the university’s prestigious Main Building, allowing students to become closely acquainted with the location of their studies from the very first days.
The country’s oldest and largest university sports club, DEAC, operates at UD, currently with thirty-three divisions, including top-tier teams in several sports. Sport holds a prominent place at the university; in recent years, the institution has developed an extensive strategy and now offers increasingly more opportunities for recreational sports activities as well.
Cultural life at the university is active and diverse, fulfilling the institution’s goal completely: everyone can find their own community.
In addition to the exceptionally vibrant student life and extensive range of services, modern, continuously developing housing options that meet every need await applicants, as fifteen dormitories and—uniquely in the country—nearly 5,000 places are available. The proportion of students admitted to dormitories has already reached almost 90 percent.
The student-friendly University of Debrecen also offers international scholarships and opportunities to participate in talent development programs; upon completing their studies, those who have taken advantage of everything available at UD will have no sense of missing out. Graduates can enter the labor market within a short time, or even during their studies. Overall, applicants can choose from 71 bachelor’s programs, 98 master’s programs, 6 undivided programs, 51 teacher training programs, 48 dual-study programs, and 4 higher education vocational programs.
Those interested in the programs announced by the University of Debrecen can apply via felvi.hu through the e-admission system. This can only be done for a few more days, until February 15.
