Location determined for Debrecen’s first P&R parking lot
Earlier today the City of Debrecen’s General Assembly decided on the establishment of a P&R parking lot.
As previously announced during the introduction of the new parking zones, there are plans to build several P&R parking lots in Debrecen. The first of these could be established in the Southern Economic Zone, near the turbo roundabout on main road 47.
“The recently introduced parking system aims to provide a solution to parking difficulties in the city centre and relieve housing-estate parking areas. In line with that, it is the municipality’s further objective to develop, in the first phase, a P&R parking lot with at least 120 parking spaces and related facilities on the designated property, steering residents towards using public transport,” stated Mayor László Papp in his proposal.
The assembly has now decided to sell the designated area through a competitive bidding process, inviting Debreceni Vagyonkezelő Zrt., NIPÜF National Industrial Park Operator and Developer Zrt., and Debreceni Ingatlanfejlesztő Kft. The starting price will be a net HUF 299 million, with the condition that the buyer is required to create and maintain at least 120 parking spaces as a P&R facility.
The proposal also emphasized that, under the law on road transport, no parking fee may be charged in areas marked with the “Park and Ride” (P&R) road sign. If, however, security of the parking area as an additional service, a security fee may be collected daily between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m., up to the lowest available price for public transport tickets in the municipality – currently HUF 480 for electronic and HUF 500 for paper tickets in Debrecen.
