As of Tuesday, April 22, it is mandatory to wear a mask covering the nose and mouth only in the intensive care, sub-intensive care, oncology and hematology departments, as well as in the Infectious Diseases Clinic at the Clinical Center of the University of Debrecen. The rules on mandatory mask wearing were eased because the number of people seeking medical attention with acute respiratory symptoms has decreased in recent weeks.

The mandatory use of masks covering the nose and mouth was introduced on January 6 in all patient care and diagnostic units of the Nagyerdei, Kenézy Gyula, and Gróf Tisza István Campuses of the University of Debrecen Clinical Centre.

However, due to the decrease in the number of people visiting doctors with upper respiratory symptoms, from Tuesday 22 April, only in the intensive care, sub-intensive care, oncology and haematology wards, as well as in the patient care areas of the Infectology Clinic and the areas used by patients, the use of masks covering the nose and mouth is mandatory for visitors and staff.

Wearing a mask is not mandatory for patients cared for in the institution in the ward where they are accommodated. Minors under the age of six and people with intellectual or psychosocial disabilities are not required to wear a mask either.

In all departments of the Clinical Centre, the wearing of masks covering the nose and mouth in enclosed spaces remains mandatory for those with respiratory tract symptoms.

The management of the University of Debrecen and the Clinical Centre asks for the cooperation of patients and their relatives and thanks them for their understanding and patience.
