New Rectoral Leadership Begins Work at University of Debrecen
Rector Zoltán Bács handed over appointments valid for the next two months—the duration of the application period—to the presidents, vice-rectors and the new chancellor on Monday in the Rector’s Council Chamber. At the meeting, the former and new rectoral leadership jointly reviewed the tasks for the upcoming period.
Following the technical handover on 30 April, the former and new rectoral leadership of the University of Debrecen began consultations on the first working day of May regarding the tasks for the coming weeks and months.
Rector Zoltán Bács recalled that, in spring 2025, the institution’s Senate decided that in future the rector’s mandate should also align with the academic year and run until 30 June. As the mandates of Rector Zoltán Szilvássy and his vice-rectors expired on 30 April, the new rector issued interim appointments for the period up to 30 June.
From 1 May, the two key university areas—previously overseen by vice-rectors for education and science—have, under the new organisational and operational regulations, been redesignated as “presidents”, becoming the primary leaders of these fields.
For the period until 30 June, Professor Veronika Fenyves has been appointed to the role of President for Education, while Professor Ferenc Kun has been appointed President for Science, both alongside their duties as deans.
Professor Dénes Páll has been entrusted with the responsibilities of General Vice-Rector, Professor Attila Jenei with those of Vice-Rector for International Affairs, and Professor Endre Harsányi with responsibilities for sectoral development.
Andrea Borné Lampert has taken up a five-year appointment as Chancellor, alongside her indefinite-term employment, from Rector Zoltán Bács. She has worked at the university since 2008 and has served as Deputy Chancellor since 2015. Her responsibilities will focus on financial management and operations, similarly to the former role of Director-General for Finance.
Rector Zoltán Bács stated that the key task for the next two months will be to ensure a smooth transition, and he asked the former rectoral leadership to support the new leaders with their experience. The meeting also reviewed the tasks for the coming period, with particular emphasis on amendments to the university’s organisational and operational regulations and the resulting changes to its organisational structure.
