Pediatric emergency care moved to a new location

The University of Debrecen Children’s Emergency Centre was inaugurated in June.

The new Pediatric Emergency Centre of the University of Debrecen Clinical Centre is open for children’s emergency care from 18 November, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

  • The new paediatric emergency department is accessed from the entrance of the Paediatric Emergency Centre on Pallagi Road. Information boards will help patients and their relatives navigate the building.
  • The in-house paediatric emergency service is also located in the new building and is open from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. on weekdays and from 8:00 to 22:00 on weekends.
  • Patients requiring non-emergency care will continue to be seen in the specialised outpatient clinics in the Paediatric Clinic’s main building.

The paediatric surgical service was launched on the first floor of the building in September, and from today (18 November 2024), children in need of emergency care will be admitted to the ground floor.

Professor Zoltán Szabó, President of the University of Debrecen Clinical Centre, emphasised that the development of emergency care at the University of Debrecen received a significant boost in 2017 with the establishment of Hungary’s first independent Emergency Clinic in the Clinical Centre. It is a tribute to the efforts of recent years that the new Paediatric Emergency Centre was inaugurated in the summer, with state-of-the-art infrastructure and modern equipment in a European-leading environment. Following the opening of the Paediatric Surgery Centre, the Paediatric Emergency Care Centre started its work today, on 18 November 2024.

Éva Juhász, assistant professor and professional coordinator of the Paediatric Emergency Centre, said that the first step is to report to the reception desk, where the data is recorded. Then, the triage room will carry out a medical assessment, based on which the specialists will decide on the severity of the condition and the timeframe for the start of medical treatment.
