Press Release

On 5 May, 2026, a pressure test was carried out at the CATL industrial site, during which water coloured green was used in order to trace any potential points of leakage. Following completion of the pressure test, the water used was discharged into the wastewater sewer. Due to a blockage in the sewer, the coloured water appeared on the surface. The Municipality of Debrecen held consultations with CATL management, the company conducting the pressure test, and Debrecen Waterworks, who confirmed that the water does not contain any contaminants.

Staff from the Hajdú-Bihar County Disaster Management Directorate and the Government Office, as well as Debrece Waterworks and the Municipality of Debrecen, are present at the scene. The coloured water has been contained, and municipal staff have taken measures to prevent it from entering natural watercourses. Specialists are taking samples from the water, and information on the results of the laboratory analysis will be provided at a later time.
