Press release: Debrecen remains the engine of the Hungarian economy; its development is unbroken
In connection with the reports published in the press regarding the second phase of CATL’s battery factory in Debrecen, the Municipality of Debrecen issues the following statement.
The investor makes the decision on the second phase of CATL’s investment in Debrecen in light of the current market conditions and the development of the world economy. The current uncertainties in the global economy make all actors cautious; understandably, a responsible decision to proceed with such a significant and costly investment can only be made after considering all aspects.
In planning the city’s economic programme, our municipality primarily calculated the expected economic effects of the first phase of the CATL investment. Accordingly, there is currently no justification for revising the economic development programme. According to the company, the first phase of CATL is progressing at an appropriate pace, and its implementation is not in question.
The Municipality of Debrecen remains committed to developing its industrial infrastructure. It is working with all available means to ensure that the industrial investments that have already begun can start production promptly, thereby contributing to the city’s economic growth and the creation of new jobs.
Debrecen remains an open and investor-friendly city, supporting companies already operating here as an active partner and flexibly adapting to the challenges of the global economic environment to provide a secure foundation for future competitive economic development.
