Another “Move, Debrecen!” activity occurred at the Debrecen SZC Irinyi János Technical School on April 2, 2025. This time, the school’s students competed in teqball, darts, and foosball tournaments. The event was unique because the school’s sports management students entirely organized it.

The school’s activity involved 46 players who had advanced from previous qualifiers. On the sports day, recreational sports took center stage. Students could register individually for three events. Including the preliminary qualifiers, the initiative engaged 100 students.

In the morning, Deputy Mayor Diána Széles greeted the students, encouraging them to enjoy the day and the break from their school routine by participating in a great community event. The deputy mayor thanked the organizing 12. A class for preparing the competition, who “will organize sports events for the next generation in the city,” and the DSZC leadership for their dedication to managing the “Move, Debrecen!” program in schools. “These sports are not about strength but about having fun together,” she concluded.

At the opening ceremony, DSZC Director General Sándor Szilágyi looked around happily among the young people, who filled the gym as competitors and supporters. The director general explained that the Debreceni Vocational Training Center and the “Move, Debrecen!” program always strive to involve new sports to engage young people alongside previous table tennis, volleyball, and dodgeball tournaments.

Csaba Papp, director of the Debrecen Primary Care and Health Development Institute (Daefi), also attended the tournament opening, where he spoke to the young people about the joy of movement. It was particularly joyful that the young people themselves created an event where they could share their love of movement. The director emphasized to the students that health preservation is increasingly valued, and those involved in sports organizations, like the active young people here, will play a crucial role.

Finally, László Szilágyi, the principal of Debrecen SZC Irinyi János Technical School, addressed the competitors. The principal emphasized the importance of project tasks like today’s event, where students gain experience by solving real situations and problems. The sports management students tackled all organizational challenges, from registering competitors to creating the schedule and procuring prizes, to make this tournament happen. The principal wished all participants a carefree day filled with sports and fun.

As part of the Debrecen Vocational Training Center (DSZC) and the “Move, Debrecen!” program, students will soon be able to compete in a volleyball tournament at the Debrecen SZC Irinyi János Technical School.
