Registration Opens for Debrecen Marathon 2027
In cooperation with the municipality, the University of Debrecen organised the Debrecen Marathon for the first time in March 2026, attracting 2,600 runners. According to both the organisers and participants, the event was a huge success, prompting Rector Zoltán Bács to announce immediately afterwards that the running festival would return in 2027. Registration for next year’s race, coming up on 4 April 2027, opened on Wednesday evening after the marathon’s promotional film was shown at yoUDay in front of around 22,000 spectators.
Next spring, runners will be able to choose from five different distances across seven categories. There will be a 1.7-kilometre children’s and charity run for younger participants and beginners, while the hugely popular short-distance race introduced in 2026 – the 5-kilometre run – will return next year. Entries are also open for the quarter marathon, half marathon and full marathon distances, with teams also able to enter the latter two events.
Participants will again be able to enjoy the excitement of competing together and the joy of exercise in a modern environment, following a spectacular and varied urban route that starts at the Great Forest Stadium and takes in some of Debrecen’s landmarks. At the same time, the event raises awareness of important social issues, including environmental protection, the importance of regular physical activity and healthy living.
All further details can be found on the event’s official website, debrecenmaraton.hu, where runners can also register at an early-bird discounted rate until 1 January 2027.
