Registration Starts for Junior Debrecen City Cards

Registration has opened for Junior Debrecen City Cards, available to children aged 6–14 attending nurseries and schools in Hajdú-Bihar County. The registration deadline is 10 April 2026.

The General Assembly of Debrecen has extended eligibility through an amendment to the relevant municipal decree. As a result, from 1 May 2026, the Junior Debrecen City Card may be issued not only to children aged 6–14 who have kindergarten or student status in public education institutions in Debrecen, but also to all 6–14‑year‑old children attending public education institutions anywhere in Hajdú‑Bihar County.

How can the Junior Debrecen City Card be requested?

The card can be applied for via online registration at the following link:
https://debrecenvaroskartya.hu/junior-varoskartya

Those who register by 10 April will be able to use the card from 1 May 2026. The plastic city cards produced on the basis of successful registration will be delivered to eligible recipients by the maintainers of the public education institutions.

Registration is conditional upon agreements being concluded between the maintainers of the public education institutions, the Municipality of Debrecen and the local transport company (DKV Zrt), as well as the provision of the required data by the maintainers.

The Junior Debrecen City Card is not granted automatically; however, parents do not have to pay either for the application or for the physical card.

Those who miss the initial registration period can still apply later, by the 20th of each month. Applicants registering between 20 April and 20 May will receive their cards by the end of May. If registration is submitted after the 20th of a given month, free public transport in Debrecen will be available from the first day of the month after next (for example, a registration submitted on 21 May will become valid from 1 July), and the card can also be collected at that time.

Who is eligible for the Junior Debrecen City Card?

Children aged 6–14 who have a nursery or student status at public education institutions in Hajdú-Bihar County are eligible to apply.

What benefits and discounts does the Junior Debrecen City Card provide?

With the Junior Debrecen City Card, children can use public transport in Debrecen free of charge.

In addition to free travel, the card offers various discounts at numerous participating locations across Debrecen, details of which are available on the official website.
