The cultural center of the Hit Gyülekezete has been completed and opened under the name “RESTART” in Gambrinus köz, as Mayor László Papp announced on his Facebook page.
The mayor added that the church has created a genuine, modern community space across generations.
“It fills me with joy, and it is wonderful to see how a space previously owned by the municipality comes to life,” he said.
The property, officially located at Piac Street 28/A but actually found in Gambrinus köz, has a floor area of 276 square meters and was granted to the religious community by the municipality for free use.
Hit Gyülekezete is committed to modernizing the poorly maintained property, conducting aesthetic and mechanical renovations, and establishing a cultural center there.
The municipal proposal stated that Hit Gyülekezete is a Christian denomination founded and centered in Hungary and is a prominent representative of the Pentecostal-charismatic movement.
The congregation, which began as a small prayer group in 1979, has grown dynamically and became the fourth-largest church in Hungary in terms of followers by 2018. Hit Gyülekezete operates educational and social welfare institutions (including elementary schools, high schools, vocational schools, kindergartens, and nurseries) in Budapest, Debrecen, Kecskemét, Nyíregyháza, Pécs, and Salgótarján. The Debrecen branch of the church counts a community of approximately 1,000 members and runs a prayer house capable of accommodating 2,500 people.
Since 2003, the church has maintained the Huszár Gál Secondary School, Elementary School, and Basic Art Education Institution, which won the “Accredited Excellent Talent Point” title in 2011 for its outstanding talent development work. Additionally, it serves as a new type of higher education training site and a reference institution.
The municipal property management company, Cívis Ház Zrt, owns the property.
The RESTART programs are advertised on the Facebook page of the Debrecen church community of Hit Gyülekezete.
