Mayor László Papp gave a presentation to young members of the Morus Leadership Academy on Tuesday evening.
According to the event’s website, “Debrecen has recently undergone a major development process, which is also affecting the lives of young workers. László Papp, Mayor of Debrecen, presented these changes and opportunities to the members of the Morus Leadership Academy.”
In this context, the mayor said two music centres will be established in Debrecen. One is a new concert centre on Dósa nádor Square, with three halls, a rock museum, and a café. The municipality launched a design competition at the end of July for its properties at 2-3 Dósa nádor Square and 7 Liszt Ferenc Street.
The development aims to “create an integrated cultural centre comprising performance and concert halls (indoor and outdoor), catering and accommodation facilities and service spaces. Debrecen has a long tradition of this kind of cultural space. This phenomenon has developed significantly recently, with visitors demanding a constantly renewed service structure. The development of the interior design and attraction of this cultural centre is of particular importance, with multi-site concert and entertainment facilities. The aim is to make it one of the city’s most modern entertainment and cultural centres.”
These would be the main elements of the development:
- A new concert hall with interior installations and service spaces,
- Upgrading and expansion of existing catering space,
- Creating primary and secondary functions in the building units covered by the design programme,
- The creation of a covered courtyard with a separate stage as an extension of the consumer area,
- Creation of a temporary pedestrian link between the two public spaces,
- Provision of accommodation.
As for the other plan, László Papp said they would like to create another sizeable cultural centre for light music in another city centre.
