At the signing ceremony of the partnership document, Minister of Agriculture István Nagy stated that “the strategic cooperation between the Ministry of Agriculture and the University of Debrecen expresses our common goals of strengthening the competitiveness of Hungarian agriculture and improving the efficiency of the Hungarian food industry”.

At the event, the Minister noted that the strategic partnership agreement signed on Thursday marks another milestone for agricultural higher education in Debrecen.

The Ministry of Agriculture and the University of Debrecen share an interest in long-term safe food production, which cannot be achieved without well-trained specialists and modern achievements and developments.

The Minister explained that, with the help of science, they are looking for answers to how to make agriculture more resilient through innovation, development, and intensive and resource-efficient technologies.

“Therefore, the partners are working together in areas crucial for our future, such as water management, adaptation to climate change and reducing the ecological footprint of agri-food production,” the statement added.

“The Minister added that higher education and secondary agricultural education are other focus areas for the partnership’s future. After all, the success of generational change is the key to the future of Hungarian agriculture. Thanks to the renewal of vocational training and higher education, more and more young people are choosing the agricultural profession, which is also a great strength for the countryside,” the statement reads.

“István Nagy said that the strategic agreement also covers areas such as expert advice and knowledge management in the food chain and rural development; agricultural R&D&I and the practical application of scientific results; food industry and food trade, fish and game management, the preservation of agro-cultural heritage, and the strengthening of social acceptance of agriculture and the Hungarian countryside,“ the Ministry of Agriculture informed.
