Nearly 30 tons of e-commerce goods arrived from China on a Boeing 757 aircraft, which travelled through Georgia to Debrecen International Airport. The flight, scheduled to start next week, will travel between the two destinations four times a week.
As is well known, the airport started operating under new management in September, according to the Ministry of National Economy. With the appointment of Ernő Györke as the new managing director of the Debrecen International Airport, a comprehensive development has begun to make the airport the region’s logistics hub.
Thanks to the work of the new owner and managing director so far, Debrecen International Airport has obtained all the necessary permits for cargo operations, and the required infrastructural developments have been implemented. The priority of the new management is for the airport to return to the passenger traffic levels seen in 2019 in the short term and to strengthen its cargo operations, which will represent a significant step forward both regionally and nationally, further strengthening the domestic economy.
The development concept focuses on two essential pillars: (1) to strengthen freight transport and (2) to operate previously successful routes and launch new routes through partnerships with new airlines. The airport management is investing considerable resources in initiating negotiations with as many airlines and cargo partners as possible and bringing ongoing negotiations to a successful conclusion to offer a broader range of destinations to those wishing to travel from Debrecen and to increase the airport’s capacity to accommodate cargo aircraft.
In the press release, the airport said they were pleased to announce that Debrecen International Airport has been put on the air cargo map with a cargo flight from China today, joining the global trade network. Air transport plays an increasingly important role in international freight transport due to the increased volume of goods and the fast-moving nature of goods transport, so they are confident that they will be able to announce more new flights in the near future and even operate cargo flights daily. All this will further strengthen the importance of the economy and tourism of Debrecen and the region.
