The school year has begun for more than 33,000 students in Debrecen
The school bell rang, and more than 33,400 primary and secondary school students in Debrecen returned to school today. The local government, the school district, and the vocational training center organized a joint opening of the school year. Mayor László Papp said at the ceremony, “Education is the key to the city’s economic development and the engine of its future.”
The school year started with a pledge at the Beregszászi Pál Technical School. The 120-year-old institution has around 850 full-time students. The school year in Debrecen once again started with a city opening of the school year. The aim of the joint celebration is for every student to find their way, with the help of teachers. “To do this, we need to think together and act together, the first steps of which were taken in Debrecen with the joint city opening of the school year, and I believe that this will be the key to a successful future,” Director General of the DSZC (Debrecen Vocational Training Center) Sándor Szilágyi said.
A total of more than 33,400 students started the school year in Debrecen’s educational institutions this morning. “Half of our approximately one thousand primary school students who graduated last year will start their secondary school years in grammar school, and the other half in vocational training. Nearly 1,200 first-year students crossed the threshold of our primary schools this morning,” Director of the Debrecen School District László Türk informed.
Education will always be a fundamental value and task in the city, as László Papp has already mentioned. The mayor put it this way: “Education is the key to the city’s economic development, the engine of its future. The future of Debrecen is largely built on teachers,” emphasizing that the knowledge born here, the values acquired here, and the human guidance are what make our city stronger, our community more cohesive, and the city’s economy even more competitive.
Chairman of the Cultural Committee of the National Assembly, László Pósán highlighted in his speech that schools nationwide have registered 2,100 more teachers for this academic year than last year. “The conditions related to the school are in place to produce competitive students who are well prepared for the challenges of the modern age when they complete their studies,” László Pósán stated.
