These are the areas of Debrecen where residential parking is now free

As reported before, parking in the immediate vicinity of the residence in Debrecen has become free of charge as of the 1st of January. The exemption can be used for a maximum of two vehicles per household, and residents must register this on the DV Parking website. The Managing Director of DV Parking Ltd., András Fodo,r provided information regarding the parking in Debrecen upon request from Médiacentrum Debrecen.

The Debrecen General Assembly adopted the amendment at the end of November, transforming the city’s parking system in two stages. As of the 1st of January, two cars per address, one per person, can park free of charge near the owner’s apartment. The first stage also changed the rules for the Széchenyi Street parking lot, making parking there free on Saturdays to ease weekend downtown traffic.

The second stage of the transformation of the parking system will come into effect on the 1st of  July. As part of this, the city will be divided into five parking zones, and Debrecen residents can buy tickets, day tickets or passes for each zone separately.

It is important to note that free parking can only be registered on streets already in the paid area. According to the DV Parking website, car owners can register on the roads, which will be newly included in the second phase of the transformation from the 1st of June.

This is how the zones will be formed from the 1st of July

The Centrum (red) zone covers the area from Petőfi Square to Piac Street and the immediate downtown area bordered by Csapó, Vár, Hunyadi János, Bethlen and Hatvan Streets.

Zone I (orange) will surround the Centrum zone, which will be bordered by Honvéd Street to the north, the small boulevard – Csemete Street, Nagy Imre Street, Tisza István Street and Antall József Street – to the west, Erzsébet and Wesselényi Streets to the south, and Shumen, Klaipeda, Burgundia and Rákóczi Streets to the east.

Zone II (green) will encompass Zone I, which, on the one hand, includes the areas within the so-called Grand Boulevard (Nagykörút). This is the area bounded by Böszörményi Road, Pesti Street, Nyugati  Street, Erzsébet Street, Wesselényi Street,  Hajnal Street, Rakovszky Street, Nyíl Street and Füredi Road. In addition, the area north of Füredi Street, bordered by Simonyi Street, Nagyerdei Boulevard, Dóczy József Street, Doberdó Street, and the area bordered by Böszörményi Street to the west, will also belong to the green zone.

Zone III (blue) will be the area around Nagyerdei Park, and Zone IV (yellow) will be the Klinika parking lot.

More detailed information about the parking system can be found on DV Parking’s website.
