Top Educators and Students Honoured Ahead of Teachers’ Day in Debrecen
The Debrecen School District Centre recognised the outstanding work of 59 exemplary teachers and education professionals, as well as 102 students, ahead of the upcoming Teachers’ Day celebrations. Future of Generations Awards, Excellence Awards, and Teachers’ Service Commemorative Medals were presented during a ceremony held on Wednesday at the Kölcsey Centre.
The School District Centre’s Ceremony featured performances by students who, together with their teachers who had prepared them for competitions, received Excellence Awards in recognition of their achievements.
The Future of Generations Award recognises public education professionals whose work has served as an example for many years. This year’s recipients included the headmaster of the school in Bagamér, which primarily educates disadvantaged pupils and students with special educational needs. “Providing what the environment, the settlement and local society cannot always give these children remains a daily challenge for both teachers and school leadership. We try, in part or in full, to make up for what is missing,” said Sándor Somogyi, Director-General of the Bagamér Primary School and Basic Arts School.
In his address, School District Director László Türk said that the teaching profession is fundamentally about believing in students, and that teachers, too, carry a school bag in their hearts. “The more school years we have behind us in our careers, the more this bag fills up with students, outstanding achievements, classes, graduation ceremonies, shared experiences and shared struggles,” he said.
A successful city cannot exist without well-prepared young people, dedicated teachers and strong schools, said Deputy Mayor Lajos Barcsa. He also drew attention to the municipality’s Cívis Talentum Award. “At the most recent council meeting, we expanded the number of beneficiaries. Instead of five, ten young people can now receive this scholarship. It sends a clear message: Debrecen values its talented young people and is ready to support them,” he said.
In total, the Debrecen School District Centre recognised the outstanding work of 59 teachers and education professionals and 102 students ahead of Teachers’ Day.
