The Déri Museum’s temporary exhibition, The Path of Gold – 700 Years of the Hungarian Gold Florin, invites visitors on a journey through one of the most illustrious chapters of Hungarian monetary history. Marking the 700th anniversary of the gold florin’s introduction, the exhibition explores how this iconic coin shaped the economy, culture, and international prestige of the medieval Hungarian Kingdom.

Opened in August 2025 and on view until the end of February 2026, the exhibition presents the gold florin not merely as a currency but as a symbol of stability, craftsmanship, and royal authority. Through carefully curated objects and historical narratives, visitors can trace the evolution of the florin from its 14th‑century origins to its later transformations under successive rulers.

What Visitors Will Discover

The exhibition follows the gold florin’s story from its introduction under King Charles I (Károly Róbert) to its final historical phases. Highlights include:
