Proposals for City Honours May Be Submitted Until 10 February
In keeping with tradition—and in accordance with Municipal Decree 24/2020 (VIII. 27.)—the General Assembly of the Municipality of Debrecen will award the Honorary Citizen title, the Pro Urbe Award, and the Patron of Debrecen Award on 11 April, the Day of the City.
The title Honorary Citizen of the City of Debrecen represents the highest distinction a resident can receive. It may be awarded in recognition of a lifetime of outstanding merit that has contributed to the material, intellectual, and moral enrichment and development of the city and its citizens, and has enhanced the city’s reputation.
The Pro Urbe Award of the City of Debrecen may be granted in recognition of decades of work that has contributed to the city’s development and good reputation, and has served the benefit of the local community, earning broad public esteem.
The Patron of Debrecen Award may be granted in recognition of significant financial support—provided without expectation of compensation—that contributes to the city’s growth and development.
Proposals for these municipal honours may be submitted by natural persons with a registered address in Debrecen at the time of nomination, as well as by civil organisations, churches, business entities, scientific institutes, institutions, and the leaders of communities operating within those institutions.
The deadline for submitting proposals is 10 February 2026.
The mandatory nomination form can be obtained at the reception desk of the New City Hall (11 Kálvin Square) or downloaded from the website www.debrecen.hu, where the list of previous award recipients is also available.
Proposals should be addressed to the Mayor of the City and submitted to the Cultural Department of the Mayor’s Office of Debrecen (New City Hall, 4026 Debrecen, Kálvin tér 11.) either by post or in person.
For further information regarding the nomination process, inquiries may be directed to Cultural Officer Zsuzsa Mózes‑Szabó (szabo.zsuzsa@ph.debrecen.hu, +36 52 517 707).
