11th Bihar Press Photo Exhibition Opens at Kölcsey Centre
The eleventh Bihar Press Photo Exhibition was opened on 4 May at the Kölcsey Centre with guitar music. A total of 14 amateur and professional photojournalists from Hajdú-Bihar and Bihar entered the press photo competition, including György Gurbán, a staff member of Médiacentrum Debrecen, who also received an award.
“As portraits cannot be entered into this competition, I tried to select from my favourite subjects—sports and dance—in such a way that they would also appeal to me personally, so that in a sense the images would still carry a kind of portrait quality,” he highlighted.
The exhibition was once again organised on the occasion of World Press Freedom Day, celebrated on 3 May. The works are being presented not only in Debrecen but also in Oradea, with the mirror exhibition was opened on Monday afternoon at Oradea Fortress.
“This is a very good meeting point for photojournalists from the region, and likewise it is important that these works, illustrating the most outstanding events of the past year, reach the major cities of the two twin counties,” said István Tóth, President of the Euro Foto Art International Association.
The photographs can be viewed at the Kölcsey Centre until 4 June. Several cultural events await residents of Debrecen in May. “The third Art Week will start soon, which showcases contemporary fine art in Debrecen—now we can say year by year. At permanent and temporary exhibition venues in the city centre, the very diverse community of Debrecen’s visual artists will present themselves,” summarised Deputy Mayor István Puskás.
At the end of May comes the Night of Literature, during which contemporary authors from more than 20 countries can be discovered thanks to the cooperation between the Csokonai Theatre and foreign cultural institutes. The Night of Museums and Book Week will be held in June.
