More and More People Opt for Cycling in Debrecen
Spring, sunshine and lots of cyclists: with the arrival of warmer weather, more and more people are getting on their bikes around the city. Cycling is simple, fast, and also contributes to reducing car traffic and therefore to a cleaner environment.
According to Tamás Vígh, facility manager at DEBEX Extreme Sports Park, there are a few things worth checking before setting off on a bike ride. “Anyone who did not cycle during the winter period and is only now taking their bicycle out again should definitely check the tyre pressure, the brakes, the chain and the gears to make sure they are working safely. If they do not understand how to do this, they should take the bike to a professional service centre. I also think it is very important that when someone starts cycling again, they should not begin with a long-distance ride,” he highlighted.
One of the main advantages of cycling is that it contributes to maintaining a healthy lifestyle and provides active recreation. Most importantly, it is accessible to everyone, with Debrecen’s cycle path network currently spanning more than 120 kilometres.
Modern, environmentally friendly transport is also given a prominent role in the Green Codex and the Sustainable Urban Mobility Plan. In order to strengthen the cycling community, cycling family days, tours and parades are being organised increasingly frequently in Debrecen.
