Environmentally Friendly Mosquito Larvae Control Programme Begins in Debrecen
On Wednesday evening, specialists carried out biological mosquito larvae control in the drainage ditches located on Köntösgát Row and Kanális Street. During the treatment, preparation containing the agent is sprayed onto the open water surface, affecting only mosquito larvae, so no special precautions are required from residents. The product contains a bacterium whose spores are consumed by the larvae, causing them to die.
One of the main advantages of this method is its high level of selectivity. As a result, it has no impact on other aquatic organisms or on terrestrial insects.
Specialists continuously monitor mosquito larvae populations at several locations across the city and, where necessary, carry out localised control measures. As a result of the Civaqua Programme, the number of wetland habitats within the city has increased. In line with the principles set out in the Green Codex, effectiveness and the use of environmentally friendly products are key considerations in preventing mosquito nuisance.
