Summer Camps Fully Booked in Debrecen, Offering Wealth of Experiences from Robotics to TV Studio Visit
Summer is now in full swing, and children’s holiday camps are filling up one after another. Debrecen offers a wide range of themed camps, from robotics to traditional crafts, while municipal media provider Médiacentrum Debrecen also helps ensure that young campers enjoy an unforgettable summer full of new experiences.
Children can discover science in a fun and interactive way at the summer camps organised by Agora Science Centre. Participants explore the world of science through spectacular experiments and fairytale characters, while another session focuses on programming, where campers design the cube-shaped city of the future and then programme their completed creations in a variety of ways.
Agora’s summer camps were announced as early as mid-March, and all ten sessions were fully booked by the end of May. Altogether, 200 children will take part in the activities over the course of the summer. “This year’s camps are aimed at children in the lower years of primary school. Applicants must have completed Year 1, and we mainly recommend our programmes for children up to Year 4, whether they choose the Playful Science or Cube Adventure camp,” highlighted Zsófia Hajduk, Professional Team Lead at the Agóra Science Experience Centre.
At the DEMKI Artisans’ House, children are introduced to traditional craft techniques, with two craft workshops each day and folk tale sessions inside a yurt. They can take home everything they create. This year, the venue is hosting two camp sessions for a total of 20 children. Organisers have once again introduced new techniques, particularly for the benefit of returning campers. “We wanted to come up with new craft activities because many of our young visitors return year after year. In leatherworking, for example, we are trying out a completely new technique that combines traditional wax-resist egg decoration with leather craftsmanship. It’s something new for us as well, and this is the first time we’re using it,” explained staff member Mária Barta.
Médiacentrum Debrecen has also joined this summer’s programme of activities. This time, campers from the Digital Makerspace of the Debrecen Vocational Training Centre (DSZC) visited DTV’s News studio. The young visitors had the opportunity to experience the behind-the-scenes world of television production first-hand and even try out green screen technology. The Debrecen Vocational Training Centre’s camp is primarily aimed at teenagers, offering insight into the world of digital design through the creation of items such as personalised phone holders and 3D-printed decorative objects. “Every year we organise free camps for children. Although we spend a great deal of time working with computer-aided design and digital editing, we always set aside a day to visit an external venue. We visited Debrecen Television last year, and it was a fantastic experience for the children, so we wanted to show them again this year how a television report, or even the live broadcast of the Flower Carnival, is produced,” added Ágnes Gyöngyné Czene, Workshop Master at the DSZC Digital Makerspace.
During the summer holidays, numerous institutions across Debrecen offer enriching activities for children. Alongside science, crafts, digital technology and media programmes, a variety of sports camps are also available, ensuring that the school holidays provide not only relaxation but also new knowledge and lasting memories.
