Final “Downtown – Love It” Weekend to Bring Folk Music, Heritage, and City Walks to Debrecen

The final weekend of the Downtown – Love It event series offers something for everyone, from family-friendly activities and cultural experiences to open-air concerts and relaxed city-centre entertainment.

Throughout the weekend

“Zoo Portraits” – photography exhibition by Roland Eszenyi in cooperation with Zoo Debrecen

Location: Shop window at 26 Piac Street
A special outdoor exhibition featuring striking animal portraits that capture the personalities and diversity of the zoo’s residents.

Saturday, 29 August

Centuries of Secrets: Discover Debrecen Through Its Buildings, Streets and Squares

Time: From 5:00 pm
Meeting point: Rickl House, 39 Piac Street
Guide: Katalin Váradi, historian and museum curator, Déri Museum
Take a guided walk through the hidden and fascinating history of Debrecen’s city centre. The tour offers a fresh perspective on the streets, squares and historic buildings that locals pass every day.
No advance registration is required.

“Only from a Pure Source” – Folk Music Concert by the Aranyhúr Ensemble

Time: 5:00–6:00 pm
Location: Outside 45 Piac Street
Organised by Kodály Philharmonia
Aranyhúr is a unique all-female folk ensemble bringing the joy of traditional Hungarian folk music to the city centre with energy and warmth. Their lively performance is perfect for a summer afternoon—whether you simply listen, clap along, smile or join in the singing.
The concert features violin, viola, koboz, double bass and ütőgardon, performed by Rebeka Dzjapko, Ágnes Marosvölgyi Törökné, Vivien Kiss and Lilla Kerekes-Polgár.

Open-Air Painting Experience on Piac Street

Time: 4:00–7:00 pm
Location: Piac Street

Organised by Énidő Élményműhely
Paint outdoors in the heart of Debrecen’s main street—no previous experience is needed. Participants can enjoy a relaxed creative session with pre-drawn canvases provided.
Please note:

  • The number of painting stations is limited.
  • The event will only take place if enough people register in advance.
  • Registration deadline: Friday, 28 August at 12 noon.

Themed Guided Tour at the Debrecen Bicycle Museum

Time: 11:00 am–12:00 pm
Location: Debrecen Bicycle Museum, 30 Piac Street
Museum director Attila Katona will lead a free guided tour exploring the history of the bicycle from 1817 to the present day.
Visitors can also make use of the museum’s free bicycle parking, and refreshments will be available in the museum’s shaded courtyard.

DayTime Party

Time: 6:00–10:00 pm
Location: Outside 38 Piac Street
Hosted by PINCE Café & Music Club
An open-air DJ set with music, drinks and a relaxed evening atmosphere in the city centre.

Sunday, 30 August

Themed Guided Tour at the Debrecen Bicycle Museum

Time: 11:00 am–12:00 pm
Location: Debrecen Bicycle Museum, 30 Piac Street
Attila Katona once again offers a free guided tour presenting the evolution of the bicycle from 1817 to today.
