MODEM Celebrates 20th Anniversary with Interactive Journey Through Time
MODEM Centre for Modern and Contemporary Arts is celebrating its 20th birthday with an interactive journey of discovery that looks back at the past while also offering a glimpse into the future. As part of the anniversary event, a new immersive technology exhibition explores how the art experience can be reimagined through innovative digital solutions of the 21st century.
One of the exhibition’s special features is a virtual flip-through presentation charting the history of Debrecen’s cultural quarter. The interactive installations created by the Special Effects Group demonstrate how modern technology can engage visitors even more deeply with cultural and artistic experiences. “The applications of immersive technology are extremely wide-ranging. In education, for example, it can be used to engage students and younger generations by providing deeper cultural and artistic content through digital solutions they are already familiar with. These tools can capture their attention within moments and keep them engaged for longer,” said Zsolt Kassai, Strategic and Innovation Vice-President of the Special Effects Group.
“20 years, 200 digital photographs” is the concept behind an interactive display that looks back at MODEM’s past two decades. During this time, the institution has presented almost 13,000 works of art in 170 exhibitions, attracting more than 800,000 visitors. Visitors themselves were placed at the centre of the anniversary exhibition: ten photographs were selected from each year, featuring the highest number of visitors. “We want MODEM’s 20th birthday to be primarily about our visitors. The interactive wall serves this purpose as well: we selected ten photographs from each of the past 20 years featuring the greatest number of visitors. This means that those who regularly and enthusiastically visit us can recall as many old memories as possible,” said Kata Vizi, Managing Director of MODEM.
The interactive exhibition exploring the meeting point of art and technology can be viewed in MODEM’s foyer until Saturday evening. The anniversary event series will continue on Friday night, when the public will be invited to a major party to celebrate the institution’s 20th birthday.
