New Bypass Road in Debrecen Nears Completion
The extension of Domokos Márton Road is now 85 per cent complete. The new 1.5-kilometre section is being built between Main Road 354 and Vezér Street, creating a connection to Main Road 33 via the existing Domokos Márton Road. Running parallel to Böszörményi Road, the new road could significantly ease traffic in the north-western part of the Debrecen.
“We hope that, thanks to this development, a significant proportion of the traffic entering the city from the north will be able to shift from Böszörményi Road to the new section, which runs parallel to it and is practically free of traffic lights,” said Mayor László Papp.
A significant amount of traffic enters Debrecen from Józsa, meaning the pressure on Böszörményi Road is constantly increasing. Further developments are also planned to help distribute the traffic: planning is already under way for the four-laning of Main Road 35 between Debrecen and Józsa. According to Deputy Mayor Ákos Balázs, these investments together could provide a more comprehensive solution to the area’s transport problems. “It is very important to give the traffic between Józsa and Debrecen the opportunity to travel in as many directions as possible and to distribute the traffic. This was the basic principle behind the transport developments in Józsa, which we embarked on with the previous government, and this project is a very important part of it,” said Ákos Balázs.
The technical handover is expected to take place in early November, and, depending on the approval procedures, traffic could begin using the new road section as early as December. The road is being built with state funding at a cost of HUF 8.25 billion.
