World-renowned mathematician gives lecture on the future of AI at the University of Debrecen
A two-day international conference on artificial intelligence applications will be held at the University of Debrecen on Wednesday and Thursday. The joint event of the institution’s Faculties of Engineering and Informatics is expected to feature nearly 30 speakers and hundreds of interested parties. The world-famous Russian-born mathematician Yurii Nesterov will also be speaking at the conference.
The English-language conference, which will start at 10.00 a.m. on Wednesday in the Lobby of the Main Building of the University of Debrecen (UD), will primarily examine the synergies between classical computer science (crisp, which describes the world in black and white with sharp boundaries) and soft, which erases sharp boundaries and is thus closer to human thinking, as well as machine learning, which lays the foundation for artificial intelligence.
The main goal of the conference is to promote interdisciplinary collaborations and present emerging trends in this field.
The main topics include fuzzy logic, neural networks, evolutionary computing, and AI-guided control and optimization of artificial intelligence.
Péter Korondi, a professor at the Department of Electrical Engineering and Mechatronics of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Debrecen, who will give several lectures at the event, told hirek.unideb.hu:
“The average person mostly encounters artificial intelligence through ChatGPT, which can also be considered an intelligent internet search engine. It searches the internet for the most likely answer to our question; it is a different world. This conference deals partly with the modeling and control of engineering and partly with the application of machine learning methods,” explained Péter Korondi.
The guest speaker of the conference will be Yurii Nesterov, a world-renowned mathematician of Russian origin and one of the greatest international figures in artificial intelligence optimization, who will speak for an hour on the philosophical and optimization aspects of artificial intelligence. The professor currently teaches at one of the oldest higher education institutions in Europe, the University of Louvain in Belgium.
He will be followed in the plenary session by Xuehai Gao, a Chinese professor at Shanghai Dianji University, who will present an intelligent design system for large bearings.
The section’s meetings will focus on AI development and digital transformation, the role of artificial intelligence in mechanical engineering design and manufacturing, data-based polytopic modeling and control theory describing human-like (artificial emotion-based) behavior in robots, as well as vehicle mechatronics applications and drive accumulator modeling.
Two interdisciplinary scientific workshops from the University of Debrecen will also be presented at the conference.
