Another Life-Saving Point Opens in Debrecen as Nursery Receives Defibrillator
The number of Life-Saving Points in Debrecen continues to grow as, earlier today, Kiserdő Reformed Nursery received a semi-automatic defibrillator donated by Róbert Nagy, while 17 members of staff completed a training course. This brings the total number of Life-Saving Points to 54 in Hajdú-Bihar County and 29 in Debrecen.
Maintained by the Transtibiscan Reformed Church District, Kiserdő Nursery opened its doors in the summer of 2025 and has been caring for the youngest members of the community ever since. On 6 November, the institution took another important step towards improving safety, receiving a semi-automatic defibrillator that can significantly increase the chances of survival in the event of sudden cardiac arrest.
Seventeen members of staff completed the training required to operate the device. At the handover ceremony, head of the institution Éva Végh-Kovács said that nursery staff do everything they could to ensure the safety of the children in their care, not only providing loving attention but also preparing for unexpected situations. “This medical device symbolises the importance of taking responsibility for one another and will further enhance the safety of our staff, the families and the people living in the surrounding area,” said Éva Végh-Kovács, head of the Kiserdő Reformed Nursery.
A number of Life-Saving Points have already been established at educational institutions in Debrecen. Károly Fekete, Bishop of the Reformed Church, also pointed out that the number of Life-Saving Points at educational institutions maintained by the Transtibiscan Reformed Church District in Debrecen has now risen to five. “Teachers and carers do everything they can to ensure the safety of children, but the Bible offers us something more. It says: ‘Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it’,” Károly Fekete noted.
With the latest defibrillator donation, the number of Life-Saving Points has risen to 29 in Debrecen and 54 across Hajdú-Bihar County. According to Dávid Ménes, head of the Debrecen Ambulance Station, this is important because members of the public can save lives before the ambulance service arrives. However, this requires both theoretical and practical training. “I would particularly like to acknowledge two people: Róbert Nagy, who donated a life-saving defibrillator to the nursery in a personal capacity, and ambulance worker Dávid Simon, who came to the nursery on his day off to teach staff the theoretical and practical steps involved in saving lives,” said Dávid Ménes.
Róbert Nagy has once again helped an institution become better equipped to provide assistance in an emergency, funding the purchase of the new defibrillator with the support of his colleagues. “Eleven years ago, I handed over the first defibrillator in Debrecen. At the time, it was an idea that came from me as a small business owner. The Life-Saving Point initiative later developed in another direction, which I was not involved in initially, but I was able to join it. I have no intention of stepping back from this work; I will help whenever I can,” Róbert Nagy emphasised.
In consultation with ambulance service specialists, the medical device worth almost HUF 600,000 will be installed at an easily accessible and clearly visible location within the nursery.
