BMW Plant Sends Hajdú-Bihar’s Industrial Production Soaring
Industrial production in Hajdú-Bihar grew at a rate significantly above the national average in every month of the year. In August 2026, the volume of industrial production increased by 8.7 per cent compared with the same period a year earlier. Based on seasonally and working-day adjusted data, industrial output was 1 per cent higher than in July 2026, the Hungarian Central Statistical Office (KSH) reported on Monday in its first estimate. According to KSH, the increase in the volume of industrial production as a whole was primarily driven by the two largest-weighted sectors: vehicle manufacturing and the manufacture of computer, electronic and optical products.
KSH has so far published regional data only up to July, but these show that industry in Hajdú-Bihar continues to surge: in June, industrial production increased by 89.7 per cent compared with the same period of the previous year, exceeding even the 85.7 per cent growth recorded in the previous month. This is by far the most outstanding result in the country, with Budapest ranking second in terms of growth, at 22.5 per cent, followed by Komárom-Esztergom County in third place, at 13.4 per cent.
In Hajdú-Bihar, industrial production has increased in every month of the year, and always at a rate significantly above the national average. The growth can now be seen not only in the percentages but also in the scale of industrial production. A few years ago, Hajdú-Bihar was still in the bottom third of the rankings, but it has now been surpassed only by Budapest, Pest County, Komárom-Esztergom, Győr-Moson-Sopron and Bács-Kiskun. In July, Hajdú-Bihar also overtook Borsod and Fejér counties. It is worth recalling that in 2010, industrial production in Hajdú-Bihar was only one-third of that in Borsod, showing just how much the county’s industry has grown.
