Further Details Announced of Railway Developments in Debrecen
On Saturday, Zsolt Tárkányi, State Secretary at the Ministry of Transport and Investment, shared the latest information on the Debrecen-related developments under the forthcoming Gábor Baross Railway Development Plan on his Facebook page, recalling that the HUF 3,550 billion railway development plan would soon get under way.
As part of the plan, the section of Railway Line 100 between Debrecen and Nyíregyháza will be renovated. Tárkányi noted that the previous government had already prepared and launched the tender for the project but, after then minister János Lázár withdrew it following the April elections, the renovation was delayed by one to one and a half years and is now expected to begin in 2028.
Tárkányi said that, alongside the introduction of reliable and fast rail services, a number of developments affecting everyday life in Debrecen would also be carried out over the coming years. One of these will be a new overpass on Vágóhíd Street, as the existing structure is more than 100 years old and can only be used subject to a weight restriction. Another long-awaited project is the construction of an underpass on Sámsoni Road. New railway stops will be established at Fényesudvar and the public cemetery. The railway stop currently located in Csapókert will be relocated to the more accessible Fényesudvar area. Noise barriers will also be built in stages in the affected areas. By 2030, the railway line between Debrecen and Nyíregyháza is planned to be capable of supporting train speeds of up to 160 km/h.
The public procurement procedures will be launched next year, while the more than HUF 200 billion required for the development will be provided from EU funds secured for Hungary.
